Liverpool FPL Season Review 23/24 – Key Stats and Top Performers

Liverpool had a quite decent season in the Premier League last season and their performance in the league earned them a third-place finish in what was Jurgen Klopp’s final season.

In this article, we are going to dive into the performances of Liverpool as a club and the performances of their players throughout the 23/24 PL season.

Liverpool 23/24 Season Review – Key Stats Breakdown

Last season, Liverpool found themselves in the top three for most of the key stats like goals per match, xG, goals and many more. Here is a breakdown:

  1. Goals per match – Liverpool were third with an average of 2.3 goals per game.
  2. Goals conceded per match – Liverpool were third as they conceded 1.1 goal per game.
  3. Clean sheets – Liverpool were joint fourth with 10 clean sheets last season.
  4. xG(expected goals) – Liverpool had the highest xG with 89.4.
  5. Big chances – Liverpool were second as they had 128 big chances.
  6. Big chances missed – Liverpool had the most big chances missed with 79.
  7. Red cards – Liverpool picked up five red cards last season which was the second highest in the division.

Based on last season’s performance Mohammed Salah was Liverpool’s best performer from an FPL point of view. The Liverpool winger had a total of 211 FPL points.

Diaz came in second place with 142 FPL points, Darwin Nunez was third with 132 FPL points, Arnold was fourth with 122 and Van Dijk came in fifth with 117 FPL points.

Once more Mo Salah is top of the list of yet another stat. The Liverpool winger got himself 18 goals in the Premier League last season with five of those goals being penalties.

Nunez, Jota, Gakpo and Diaz make up the top five of Liverpool’s list of top goal scorers. From last season it is pretty obvious that the goals were shared across the pitch.

Again for the third time running, Salah is on top of yet another key stat and this time it is the assists and xA standings. Last season, the Egyptian forward got himself 10 assists from an xA of 7.5.

Next on the list is Darwin Nunez who picked eight assists from an xA of 4.5, then we have Elliot who got six assists from an xA of 4.6, in fourth place we Mac Allister who registered five assists from an xA of 4.9.

And then in fifth place, we have Luiz Diaz who had an xA of 4.7 and registered five assists.

Once more Salah is on top of yet another metric and this time it is the xG metric. Last season he had an xG of 21.2 which was the highest in Liverpool, in second, we have Nunez who got an xG of 16.4 and scored 11 goals, in third, we have Diaz who had an xG of 11.9 and scored eight goals.

In fourth, there is Gakpo who scored eight goals from an xG of 9.0 and in fifth place, we have Jota who massively overperformed his xG – scoring 10 goals from an xG of 5.3.

Liverpool 23/24 Defensive Numbers

Liverpool’s defensive numbers were not as great as many would have expected. In fairness, the numbers they put up defensively is not the sort of numbers that win titles. Here is a breakdown of some key stats:

What we learned from Liverpool’s 23/24 PL season

Well, from an FPL perspective, there was no need to have any other player from Liverpool aside from Mo Salah. He was by far the most consistent performer which is why he is top of most key stats.
