With the ability to roll over more than two transfers in FPL, planning how and when to use your transfers has become even more crucial. If you can manage to accumulate up to five free transfers, it essentially gives you a mini wildcard.
However, rolling over your transfers isn’t always the best strategy due to how quickly player prices can rise or fall. If you don’t act swiftly, you might incur a points deduction due to price changes.
In this article, we’ll identify the best FPL transfers for Gameweek 2.
Gameweek 2 Transfer Strategy – Who Are FPL Managers Transferring into their Teams
From the image above, we can see some of the most sort after FPL assets ahead of gameweek 2. We can that FPL managers are looking to bring in some of the most in form players – players who performed really well in gameweek 1.
1. Gameweek 2 Defender Transfer Targets
Based on the decisions and transfers of a majority of FPL managers, Mazraoui of Manchester United is considered the best 4.5 million defender to bring into your team for Gameweek 2.
The United full-back delivered an impressive point return in Gameweek 1, securing a clean sheet and earning 2 bonus points. At 4.5 million, he is a strong replacement for Quansah.
Another solid 4.5 million defender to consider this gameweek is Antonee Robinson of Fulham. Although he didn’t keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 1, Robinson is a defender with potential. Here are his attacking stats from Gameweek 1:
These numbers suggest that Robinson’s performance could improve when facing easier opponents, which is exactly what he has in Gameweek 2 as Fulham takes on newly promoted Leicester. The odds of a clean sheet for Fulham against Leicester are quite favorable.

2. Gameweek 2 Midfielder Transfer Targets
Based on the activities of FPL managers, the most popular midfielder transfers for Gameweek 2 are Bukayo Saka, who earned a goal, an assist, and 12 points; Diogo Jota, who scored a goal and gained 8 points; and Mohamed Salah, who registered a goal, an assist, and 14 points.
Here’s a breakdown of their attacking stats, starting with Mohamed Salah:
These numbers speak for themselves, and the player you choose should depend on your team’s specific needs. If you’re looking for a midfielder priced at 7.5 million, Jota is an excellent choice, as he’s a midfielder playing out of position.
For a 10 million midfielder, Saka is a strong option. If you’re after a premium midfielder, Salah is your man. However, if your wildcard is active this gameweek and you’re trying to fit all three into your team, check out our Gameweek 2 wildcard article.
Among these three, Salah and Jota are my preferred picks due to their easier upcoming fixtures and favorable fixture difficulty ratings over the next five gameweeks.
Other midfielders who could be great transfers this week or in the upcoming weeks include Minteh (5.5), Mitoma (6.5), and Morgan Rogers (5.0). If players like Gordon (7.5), Smith Rowe (5.5), and Nkunku (6.5) don’t meet expectations, these alternatives could be valuable replacements. Be sure to keep them on your watchlist.
3. Gameweek 2 Forward Transfer Targets
In terms of forwards, Haaland, Welbeck, Zirkzee, and Havertz are the four most popular transfers ahead of Gameweek 2. Like the midfielders, these forwards all performed exceptionally well in Gameweek 1.
Haaland, for example, scored 7 points, Zirkzee earned 8 points, Welbeck returned 12 points, and Havertz also scored 12 points.
These are all solid options to consider for Gameweek 2, as they looked sharp in their respective opening fixtures. The ones I’d particularly focus on are Havertz, Welbeck, and Zirkzee, provided he’s fit to start from the beginning.
Honorable mentions go to Muniz and Chris Wood, as they have some of the best upcoming fixtures.
